Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a, nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University, the Sorority is currently a sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominately Black college educated women. This includes 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea.
The major programs of the sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:
The concept to establish an additional chapter in the East Bay Area was conceived by three Delta Sorors several years prior to the actual chartering of the chapter. These three Sorors were: Lee Etter Butler-Mouton, Gloria Keith-Dugan and Bernice Spearman-Thompkins. These pioneering Sorors began making preparations using the data from their research to establish a viable and productive organization in the Oakland East Bay Community. On June 30, 1979, Mrs. Addie Jean Haynes, Director of the Farwest Region, with all power invested by the National Executive Board, chartered the Oakland East Bay Alumnae Chapter.

Jefferson, Edith Martin, Isabel Medford, Lee Etter Butler-Mouton, Helen Neil, Ollie L. Owens, Jessie Lacy-Strange, Dorothy Washington-Strickland, Bernice Spearman-Thompkins, Dorothy Townsend, Loni R. Williams, and La Rose Woods.

A Message From The President
The members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Oakland East Bay Alumnae Chapter (OEBAC) welcome you to our website. The OEBAC was chartered on June 30, 1979 by 20 tenacious women and are extremely proud to be a part of a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since our founding; on January 13, 1913, 22 inspired women at Howard University have served as an example for more than 200,000 women pledging Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. The Sorority is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated women and currently has 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica and the Republic of Korea.
A thriving organization in the Bay Area, for over 35 years, OEBAC continues the mission of the Sorority to be a collective strength promoting academic excellence and providing assistance to those in need. Our efforts are in the areas of Educational Development, Economic Development, Physical and Mental Health, Political and International Awareness and Involvement.
In celebration of 100 years of sisterhood, scholarship and service, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc held its 51st National Convention July 2013 in Washington, D.C. As OEBAC strives to reach this milestone our journey will be to:
Increase our impact on constructive development in our community (society), through public service endeavors
Increase the educational opportunities for young people through mentoring and scholarship initiatives
Continue enhancing the profound stature and legacy of Oakland East Bay Alumnae Chapter through uncompromising commitment through service, leadership and empowerment
It is an honor to be a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., President of OEBAC; even more, a privilege to be a member of such an outstanding chapter!
